Should we use moisturizer? What if we stop using them and what happens?
This is an opinion piece, on what happens when we stop applying moisturizers to our skin. I’d hope to back it up in due time. Nonetheless, this is all based on my research and understanding of the human physiology through my limited education in biology.
When we stop providing the high humidity environment to our skin and expose our skin to a lower humidity environment by stopping the usage of moisturizers, the outer layers of skin flares and flakes off crazily. It is a dry, scabby, phenomenon. New raw wet skin is exposed, then dries and scabs again and again. It looks bad, that is why it is called a withdrawal process. Anything you deprive from your body and results in a reaction is a withdrawal process. It does not necessarily mean your skin is addicted to moisturizers.
Why? If you remove water source from a plant, the plant wilts. When you remove the external stimulated humidity that your skin cells have mistaken believing as a “healthy environment”, the skin cell dies.
The reason why your skin appears better prior to MW is because your skin is no different from being skin cells in a petri dish, fed and maintained by an external environment to keep them alive. When the nutrients are removed, the cells die.
When your are off MW, your body reacts as it should. Being an highly efficient self-regulator in keeping homeostasis, the body will recognise that it will need to produce stronger skin cells in the absence of a “fake” humid environment provided by moisturizers. The body being efficient, will not produce things that waste ‘energy’. Almost every function or feature your body has, serves a purpose. (Except for male nipples and the remnants of some of our evolutionary feature such as body hairs). Your new skin cells will become more efficient in handling the reduced humidity or rather, the natural environment’s humidity.
Again it takes time for the body to trigger such stronger cells. 1 month thereabouts is close to conventional knowledge of new skin growth from the base epidermal layer to the top layer.
So please note, anytime you use moisturizers on your bad skin, you are just providing life support in the artificial sense. While bad skin damaged from TS needs to be removed, artificial life support only results in a prolonged recovery period.
